Hi all,

I've been fortunate enough to get my hands on a 66 pre which unfortunately arrived without any remote and as anybody who owns one knows it is useless without the remote as there are no controls on the unit itself.

My question being if anybody either knows where I can get a secondhand remote (in any condition) or if the smaller Quad replacements are still available (and who to buy it from if it is) or if anyone has managed to get a universal remote such as the Logitech Harmony or One for All to work and if so with what code?

Any help much appreciated.

Luke

Hi Luke, the Quad 66 is listed as a supported device by Harmony, and all Harmony remotes are compatible.

Hi Pete,

I'm led to believe the the "Quad 66" listed as supported by the universal remote manufacturers refers to the 66 CD (which uses Philips RC5 protocol) and not the 66 Pre (which uses Quads own unique communication protocol), I bought a One for All universal remote (which also lists "Quad 66" as supported) and tried all the amplifier codes after trying the three they reccomend for the Quad 66 but none did anything at all. Unless you have a Harmony working and can give me the code you used I'm afraid it is unlikely to help. Thanks anyway.

Luke.

Just to let anyone interested know I managed to organize a new small remote from Quad UK, I'm well impressed by the product support for products nearly 30 years old, it's a testament to how things were built to last back then.

A quick update, PeteUK is in fact right in that the Logitech Harmony Hub does in fact now control the 66 pre (although they only define it as a Quad 66 not a 66 pre) and in fact works rather well doing so. I can now control the preamp with my iphone, something I never thought possible.
