Greetings from Montreal Canada, first post :)

I recently acquired a 303-33 set and am contemplating partnering them with an FM 3 tuner.

My understanding is that there are 2 versions of this tuner, which is more desirable?

Anything else to look for?

Thanks for your time.

Thats exactly what I was looking for, thanks:)

I came across an FM3 that appears to be in fine cosmetic and functioning condition however, the "Stereo" lamp does not illuminate even after replacing the light bulb. Im guessing that it`s not reproducing a stereo broadcast either.

Can those symptoms be attributed to an alignment or is there some more sinister at play here? Is that a common issue with these tuners?

The serial number is 37241.

Hi Michael,

Since you are new to this forum, I would like to point out the excellent search function this forum has.

Try looking for "fm3 bulb" and you can find some hints why your bulb "does not shine" :)

Try this one: FM3 Stereo Light

They changed the stereo decoder at serial number 5885, and the IF chip at serial number 10,000. The decoder change doesn't matter so much except that it is much harder to align, but the later IF chip has about 6 times the sensitivity for full limiting, i.e. it is quieter on weak signals, so it is very desirable.

I`m still unsure about this particular unit, more so after doing some research. I`ve worked on plenty of amps and preamps but never on a tuner and I have no idea who could possibly perform an alignment if that turns out to be the issue.

Maybe I should hold out for another unit that works properly but  FM3s are quite rare in my area:(

There is The AudioMayvin in Montreal. Very experienced guy.

I find that FM3s always need full realignment: RF, IF, and MPX.
