Other than reducing the gain, anyone have any suggestions for reducing the noise generated by a 306 - replacing the T1 with a lower noise equivalent perhaps? - I am assuming T1  is the biggest source of noise but I have not measured.

Noise is an issue as I wasnt to use a pair of 306s in active speaker system with high efficiency speakers. Its acceptable now but it would be nice to make it a bit quiteter.

The SNR of a Quad 306 is better than -100dB. If you have a noise problem there is clearly something wrong with it.

Sorry for jumping to conclusions.

I assumed the 1970s amplifier would be noisy rather than the supplier of my DAC would be lying - foolish of me with hindsight.

Apologies to all including Mr Walker's ghost.
