Hi,

I upgraded my mk2 34 and 306 in 2013, before the switch to LME op-amps. Is it worth doing this upgrade from the OPA op amps?

Also, have there been any other mods issued since 2013 that would be reasonable to apply for circuit stability/sound improvements?

You probably won't hear the difference upgrading from OPA134 to LME49710. The latter were very attractive for several years there on price grounds as well as performance, but they have been discontinued in DIP-8 form and are now getting hard to find.

If you didn't put any decoupling around IC9/10 you might find that beneficial. See the current Upgrade/Revision Notes or whatever they're called.

Thanks for the reply,

I've read a post or two about using the LME 'tin-hats' as replacements, and was toying with the idea of using a couple in the phono stage. would this bring any appreciable difference?

I have applied the suggested changes to the phono stage but still looking to squeeze as much openness and clarity to it as i can find.

Thanks again

thanks,

Just to clarify, if I'm only replcing IC 7 and 8 with the 'tin hats', can i still get away with placing the decoupling caps on IC 9 and 10 (as per upgrade manual)? or just place the caps on 7 and 8?

Thanks in advance

The IC packaging doesn't make any difference to the need for decoupling.

sorry, it seems i didn't explain myself well enough.

the upgrade manual states the the uncoupling should happen at IC 9 and 10. I'm only changing IC7 and 8. My question is, do I decouple at IC9 and 10 as per the upgrade manual? OR do I just decouple in the phono stage (IC7 and 8)?

I understood you the first time. The fact that you're using a different IC package doesn't change anything. You do what it says in the manual.
