Hi,

I want to buy one of the Quad remote controlled pre's to use with my 303. Is there much difference sound wise between the 77 and 66 series?

 Many thanks for any thoughts.

I know this is not a sentiment shared by all, but having owned a 33, 34, 44, 66 and briefly a 77, I personally cannot hear much difference. More to the point, while there may be differences,, subtle or not, I consider them to be in the area of subjectivity. One may sound different, but not necessarily better

My experience with a 77 was not particularly good. The sound was fine, but it was technically twitchy. The remote didn't work well, and I got tired of dealing with it. I've been using a 66 Preamp for years. I love the look and feel, the unusual, interesting system remote, and a sound that suits me perfectly. I'm also aware the 66 is sometimes derided by fellow Quad enthusiasts, but I have no idea why. I love it!

Thanks very much for the responce.....I'll avoid the 77 series....they sound problematic, and will go for the 66 series instead. I'm quite interested in trying a 306 too. I've always had the bigger amps, 405-2/606 etc in the past. Cheers
