Hi

I've been running a pair of Kef bookshelf speakers with a Quad 33 and 303 absolutely fine. I wanted to find a good pair of Leaks to run off the amp - and found some lovely Leak Sandwich 600 speakers - almost look new. They are quite big - 13 inch bass drivers and 2 other drivers.  Trouble is they sound distorted and not very good. I have been assured they work fine. The Leaks are 4 - 8 ohms. The amp setup I think is 4 - 16 ohm. My father had a similar setup when i was a kid so I assumed the amp could power the speakers. Are they too much for the Quad? Is there anything I can do? Thanks.

Should work perfectly. If you're hearing clipping either the amplifier or the speaker is defective. Easiest way to isolate that is with anothe amplifier or speaker.

Or else you have an accidental short in the speaker cabling, which will force the 303 into current-limiting, which is soft clipping to a low volume.
