Quad 33 to Leak Stereo 20 reduce sensetivity

I am connecting my Quad 33 (Dada upgraded) to a Leak Stereo 20 with input of 125mV so need to reduce the Quad amp output sensitivity by 11db.  I do not want to use attenuators, as I understand that these reduce the sound quality of the Leak.

Any suggestions, please?

The gain of a Quad 33 is nominally 5, for 100mV input and 500mV output, given by (R411+R412)/R412, and can be adjusted by varying these resistors, keeping their sum approximately constant, in the vicinity of 2.2K ohms.

However the real problem here is the Leak, and it will continue to be a problem with any preamp other than Leak's own (Point One and Varislope), which are of aesthetic or historical interest only. Many Leak owners reduce the sensitivity to something more reasonable like 500mV or even 775mV (0dBm). This is easily done and I have carried it out for most of my Leak customers. I am having a cat and mouse problem here.  Well two, but you may be able to help with one.

1. So I have my audio source coming in via Radio 1 and Disc (MC via a head amp).
2. I have a Quad 33 (A) connected to a Leak Stereo 20 which is very sensitive (125mV) via the amp output.  I have done the mod you sent me which cleared the hiss and hum and made the combo manageable.
3. I have another Quad 33 (B) connected to the first Quad 33 (A) via the tape socket* with a reverse cable
4. I have Quad 33 (B) connected to a Quad 303 via the amp output.

The problem is I do not know what setting to put the two Quad 33 tape cards, because what I have found is that after doing the mod to the Leak Stereo 20, the sound was great and felt in control, BUT I found that the sound in the 33 (B) was too low, so I started playing with the sensitivity selection on both the Quad 33s, the problem there is that it starts to interfere with the balance with the Leak for some reason.

What setting would you suggest on the tape cards on the two Quad 33s, as I am getting in a pickle, please?

OK, just tried;

Quad 33A to H
Quad 33B to L

And seems to work.  Not sure why it didn't work before, can only assume I have been getting myself in a tizz.

Easy enough to get yourself in a tizz with this stuff. You need to set the replay sensitivity of the receiving 33 to L=100mV and the record sensitivity of the sending 33 to H=100mV, these being the only values they have in common.
