Another dumb question alert

Alas somebody wants to buy my tricked out Quad 44 that is dressed in an Austin Powers  British Flag paint scheme because I disliked the olive drab colouring. Before I reluctantly sell to someone who just bought my matching red Thorens table, I want to source another 44 and do the same thing again for myself - only do a better job of it. So I did find one online but I noticed in the photo it does not have the Cancel light like mine does - mine is an early serial number variant 69xx

Mine has the crappy IEC female sockets on the back without the collar fitting. The fellow who is listing the 44 doers not have a photo of the back on the for sale site so I am unable to see if it is a newer unit like I suspect it is. I guess my question is: Why did they remove the cancel light and is it a much more improved version of the Quad 44? I see that it does have a CD button so it must have the better CD module than just a Radio board which probably answers the second part of my question above. It is an Olive Drab unit so I am gathering it must be from the era just before they went to the nicer looking grey. Because this one is for me, I want to make sure I get a good unit - it would be a long distance purchase so all I can go by what would be best on average and hopefully the fellow is honest about its functionality....

Thanks for any insights in advance

Tim

Oh, I did email the fellow to get a ballpark serial number but so far no response. May have got him nervous asking for a serial and a photo of the back. Just sent an explanation so hoping he gets back to me...

In the service manual all the changes and relation to the serial numbers are explained. The best 44 (my opinion) has a serial number above 23.000. It is a mix of the 34 technologie and the old 44. In the service manual Quad did not give a reason for ommitting the Cancel Led.

One final question. Do you happen to know at what serial number (approximately) did they stop adding the cancel LED?

Thanks

No, the service manual does not give a clue, either the web, but it must be somewhere between 19.000 and 23.000, but check the unit by pictures before you buy.

Will wait until it arrives to see how well it performs and if it needs anything...
