An annoying thing just happened whilst attempting to replace the light bulbs on my tuner.

I managed to unscrew and replace one bulb but the other two were totally seized and impossible to replace. That's not too bad because I can live without the illuminations but, one of the bulbs was broken, while trying to unscrew it from it's holder.

But my main worry is that the tuner will not now turn on when reconnected to the FM33. Any suggestions as to what's wrong?

Check the fuse. I have more holders: contact me off-list if required. Or replace with LEDs and 1K in series as mentioned in my blog article about this.

Thank you. Checked the fuse.. ok. If, as I said if one of the neons is damage/broken could this be why the Tuner is not working or should the problem lie elsewhere?

If one or both the *incandescents* are off, or indeed al four, it doesn't affect the rest of the tuner. Check cables, transformer connections, etc. Also make sure that the arm of the lamp inside the RF cage that just illuminates the dial isn't shorting to chasses.

It seems that it was the neons causing a short out. Once I clipped them off everything was ok.

I think I will change them for led's. Could you let me know which ones to use.

Thank you.

Julian.

It doesn't really matter. De gustibus non est disputandum. I use 5mm orange in series with 1K2 resistors. Watch the polarity: see my blog article.

Once again, they are not neons. They are LES 12V incandescent lamps. FM1s and FM2s have neons, which are high-voltage things, quite different.
