Just curious does anyone know how many pins the Capxon have? (the 15000uf 63V)

They are counterfeit BHC Aerovox (Kemet) ALP22A so they have the same pinning.

But not the same quality.

My story is i have two 909 amps and i purchased both new.

One amp has never been serviced and never opened up, but one amp sent to Quad in 2016 for service.

Quad installed Kemet/BHC, a new transformer and also replacement caps for C7, C9, C11.

The funny thing is, the amp that Quad serviced didn't sound as good as my Chinese 909 with Capxon.

I thought maybe BHC have a boring sound, however recently i opened up my 909 (the one Quad serviced) and i could see strange looking caps for C7, C9 C11. Maybe Quad used cheap caps for C7, C9, C11, and that is the difference i'm hearing?

I could see the cap they used for C11 was only half the size of the original (they used 50% smaller caps for C7).

Is it possible the difference i am hearing is maybe they used bad/cheap caps for C7, C9 & C11?

Do C7, C9 & C11 have more influence on the sound compared to the main PSU caps?

The problem is, everything influences the sound, even your local power plant! But I make the distinction between direct, indirect and remote indirect in the signal line. The big and small Psu caps are indirect, but very close to direct, they make the DC power supply looks like a short circuit for AC signals. C7 looks indirect, but influences the AC current through the class A stage, so direct! Although the Psu caps are expensive, compared with current wages, well? That is why we don't repair, we always repair and renovate. Use good quality caps like Nichicon, BHC/Kemet or Panasonic. The 'oldest' 909 is from 1999. So all electrolytes are dried out.
